History´s material

During 1st BC, the Emperor August ordered the extraction of marble in this location and, since then, Carrara marble has become the raw material for countless monuments. During Julius Caesar splendor, it grew in popularity and it was used in public buildings and Roman villa, such as Agrippa´s Pantheon in Rome. Since then, its fame has not decreased a bit. This small town was home to great Classic and Renaissance artists who, surrounded by its valleys, sculpted works of art that are now considered artistic milestones. Among them, it is worth mentioning Michelangelo or Gian Lorenzo Bernini and, among their most popular works, The Pietà, David and Capella Cornaro. But, why is Carrara Marble the favorite material of so many great artists?
